Fortis Excel Racing

Royal Thames Regatta 6th - 7th September

The 3rd and final regatta in the David Diehl Series 2008:

The Farr 45's fight it our for the David Diehl Trophy Series for 2008. With only 1/2 point between Freddie Freeloader and Fortis Excel for the year the battle was on.

Saturday

4 races was planned for Saturday but 25-30 knots of wind put a stop to the show for many boats and only one race was held. Fortis Excel was the only boat in the fleet that had no mishaps and a solid routine kept them in the clear to take the win for the day despite extreme conditions and racing on the very edge of what these boats are capable of. Now Fortis Excel had the lead by .5 points.

Sunday

A very tense start as all knew that whichever won the day between the "blue boat" Freddie Freeloader and the "shiny boat" Fortis Excel would win the overall series and regatta. After 3 more wins by Fortis Excel the blue boat retired and the day, the weekend, and the David Diehl Trophy 2008 goes to a very proud crew on Fortis Excel.

Agne Nilsson puts the success down to the concentration and outstanding team spirit his boat and crew enjoys. "Look after your crew and they will look after you and your boat" was Agne Nilsson's parting comment as he left Hamble with a big smile.
