Garmin Hamble Big Boat Series

In its 26th year the Garmin Hamble Big Boat Regatta was won by Fortis Excel. The 2 weekends were very different and ended with exceptionally windy conditions. After 2 wins in day one and yet another win in day two, Fortis Excel stole a solid lead on her competitors. On her last day racing this year Fortis Excel wins overall in both combined IRC and in IRM. As she crossed the finish line of her last rave the crew celebrated winning the series overall and finishing the season on a high. Winning the very last race day of the season is also a great way for the crew to remember their boat as she goes into hibernation and a small internal refit over the winter.

We had set out to constantly improve and climb our way onto the podium during the latter part of her first season. I am very happy to say that we actually came on the podium in most of our races this year. It is with great pride that I see Fortis Excel at the very top of the podium with the kind help of our sponsor Fortis and a fantastic crew. We have steadily climbed our way into 3rd 2nd and 1st over the season and I stand humbled by the talent of the fleet, and look forward to a challenging  2008 where I hope to do more of the same.
