Fortis Excel IRM 2 Race Report

Saturday:

Farr 45 Yacht Racing Farr 45 Yacht Racing

Heavy winds (27-30 knots) - most boats went home only 2 boats decided to wreck their sails - we were not one of them and I am pleased with that decision in hindsight.

Sunday:

Very windy (22-27 knots) and very wet! Mark Saunders replaced Pete Selby and was good company to have onboard. That was a great day despite aggressive raindrops driven into our eyeballs as we went faster than most both upwind and downwind today.

First race:

I thought the 4th position in race 1 was excellent given we were a little towards the back as we came off the line. Great crew co-ordination and despite occasional high tension I think we managed the pressure, the very heavy winds and the dangerous moments very well. And having beaten myself up previously - I take the liberty of saying that the driving wasn’t too bad either.

Second race:

Despite being a little late off the line again – we recovered extremely well. As Mark said “amazing to drive straight through all the rough and come out the other end number one!” Great tactics, crew-work, spinnaker handling paid off and led us to our 3rd win in the F45 class thus far this year - and our first win in the IRM series to date!
